Nagaa! Peace be with you! I'm Amy! Oromo is the most widely spoken language in Ethiopia — the largest country in the Horn of Africa! The Oromo people have an extraordinary democratic tradition called Gadaa — an 8-year governance system developed over 500 years ago. Oromo athletes have dominated long-distance running — Haile Gebrselassie and many Olympic champions are Oromo! Galatoomaa! (Thank you!)

What Makes Oromo Special?
Gadaa Democracy
The Gadaa system — the traditional Oromo political system — is a sophisticated democratic governance structure over 500 years old, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Champions of the Track
Haile Gebrselassie — one of the greatest long-distance runners in history — is Oromo. Ethiopian runners (many Oromo) have dominated Olympic marathons for decades.
Coffee's True Homeland
The Oromia region of Ethiopia is believed to be the original homeland of the coffee plant — the word "coffee" itself may derive from "Kaffa", a region in Oromia.
