Romania

Romania is an Eastern European country of medieval castles, painted monasteries, and wild Carpathian Mountains! The country is most famous for Bran Castle, often called "Dracula's Castle," perched dramatically on a rocky cliff in Transylvania. While Bram Stoker's fictional vampire never actually lived here, the real historical figure Vlad the Impaler (who inspired Dracula) ruled nearby. The medieval towns of Brașov and Sighișoara have beautifully preserved Gothic and baroque architecture with cobblestone streets and colorful buildings.

Romania offers incredible natural beauty: the Carpathian Mountains with hiking trails and wildlife including bears and wolves, the Danube Delta (Europe's best-preserved delta and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) teeming with birds and fish, and scenic countryside dotted with traditional villages where horse-drawn carts still travel.
